This summer has been a very busy time. My oldest son moved back to Alabama from Georgia. I have had classes at home for teaching art every Tuesday, and I have worked on three portrait commissions. Along with that, I have worked on rehab for my knee, and tried to develop new ideas for projects for students. Summer goes by so quickly, and I feel I have accomplished a lot, but as always, there was more I wanted to do.

Having a great spring break. The weather has been amazing, and I completed a painting for my cousin's daughter's baby shower. I have worked on sketch ideas, and made some interesting discoveries. My student's fund raiser has taken too much of my creative energy this last few months. To get over 400 projects completed and ready to send in for my students to receive their work in sticker form has been a daunting task. They have created Illuminations with their Initials and created a wax resist with watercolor background. I was pleased for the most part with how many of the projects looked. I had more that were not totally understanding and willing to work with the paint in a proper manner.

Great chance to get busy painting this weekend. Rainy Saturday and time to work on watercolor of my favorite little man...Zac. He is my mixed breed little bundle of fur who is almost nine years old, and beginning to grey around his muzzle. Cute as pie, but has a temper like a monster. Going to post photo when I am finished. Hubby has been doing photos of the sun through his telescope, and has a strange contraption on the front of the camera. Not sure that I want to go there and attempt to remove it.

Getting back to work after knee surgery has been much more difficult than I had hoped. I have been working to help my students finish up their artwork before they leave me for their next elective on Friday. With 185 students a day, it is a challenge to keep them motivated and get their work done and keep them focused on doing their best work. I will try to post photos of the best Aboriginal work when it is completed.

New Year----New Thoughts
I began 2012 in a whole new frame of mind. I found out I was facing surgery for my knee, and dreaded the pain and recovery time. As God would have it, I had time to think, and sort out my thoughts and plan a course of action I want to carry forth into this year. My pain level had reached a point, I was desperate for relief and almost didn't care what cost the pain might be, I just needed relief.
God is so good. The pain was not more than the pills managed to dull, and my healing was greatly improved by a cortisone shot. As bad as the shot hurt, it has helped the bursitis in my hip, my sinus issues, and now that my knee has been repaired, I am ready to hit the ground running...( not literally, but figuratively) in February. Did begin with a painting on New Years' Day. Different style for me, but fun. This is the beginning of a new style, and a new focus for 2012.
I am thankful for the time I have had to study some interesting topics, and to learn about things I never even knew existed. I feel renewed, and energized. I have not been this pain free in two years. I fell January 2010, and have been in pain since. I am focused on creating, learning, and growing new things this year. This blog is one of the "new things" I am going to try to grow learn from new friends about this wonderful world of art.
